China’s animation film industry is centred on Shanghai, where local artists have scored all the firsts in the development of Chinese animation. Celebrating its 25th birthday last year with a new release, Nezha Conquers the Dragon King is both China’s first wide-screen animation feature and a popular classic. Based on a well-known legend, the film tells the struggle of the little boy Nezha against the Dragon King of the sea, who sends storms and floods to destroy the land of his birth. With superb artistry based on Chinese traditional art forms, Nezha has won many prizes and the hearts of children of all ages.
