This evocative film depicts the disappearing way of life of the nomadic herdsmen of the Mongolian Steppe. Director Ning Cai stars in his own debut film trying to survive a punishing drought and maintain his traditional way of life. As he heads to his traditional pasturelands, the government has fenced them off in an effort to conserve the threatened environment. His wife, played by producer Na Renhua (a girl from Hunan), pressures him to move to the city and take up a new lifestyle, but he resists. Ning Cai uses a simple story of one nomadic herder's troubles to demonstrate and to arose the awareness of the problems.
