Director ‘s explication:

This film is a unique and highly realistic reflection of the lives of people in the lower echelons of a small Chinese city. It explores the relationship between the hard realities of life and the aspirations of the spirit. It is a film about desperation, survival, and hope, about the resilience of humanity in the most adverse of circumstances.
